I am a Boston-based freelance writer. I write about music—and a few other things—for publications like Premier Guitar, Bandcamp Daily, Reverb, Vinyl Me Please, and a few others. I also have a Substack interview series called Plus One Me, that focuses on the career/business side of music. I have a degree in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory of Music (I graduated a long time ago), but my interests are not limited—at all—to jazz. I like music with personality and edge (hint to publicists: don’t waste your time sending me wimpy-jangly singer/songwriters, that—and Broadway musicals—make my skin crawl). I like loud guitars, daredevil improvisation, fast tempos, never-ending-trance-inducing grooves, raw production, lo-fi, no-fi, weird dissonance, noise, singable melodies, world grooves (too broad? turn me on to something I don’t know), and basically anything where it’s obvious the artist is real.

I write for a number of guitar-interest publications and I know a lot about gear, but I am not a gearhead. My Tele only has one mod. My amp has too many buttons. My pedalboard needs love.

What else?

I am also an orthodox rabbi (bet you didn’t see that coming). I spend most of my non-music time in online Jewish education. You can learn more about my Jewish-interest work and writing here.

Tzvi Lebetkin

Art Director

Tzvi attended Chelsea school of Art in the early nineties, before doing what most art students do – dropping out! Leading to an open ticket to Israel.

Picked up off the kotel by Jeff Seidel, like many other hapless unsuspecting youths, he attended Aish HaTorah. Years later he emerged, married and living in Miami, working in PR.

That led into the heady world of web and graphic design, which he’s inhabited for the past 15 or so years – before migrating into the comic book world in recent years.

Tzvi creates our websites and is the main video editor for The Rabbi Cooks!?
